For Game Players the reason is Multiplayer games. This is much faster and cheaper than online gaming on the WWW. But there are other uses for your Local Area Network. Copying files from one computer to another, especially game maps for games like Quake2 which you may have downloaded from the Internet and need to be copied to the other computers, these and other files such as AV files and Graphics are usually too large to transfer on a floppy disk. Also updates to video drivers etc may not be for the computer you dowloaded to and you will need to copy the update to the relevant computer. |

If you have the same operating system, WIN95 or WIN98 on one or more computers you can compare version number, or copy a file that may have been altered or corrupted by some wayward game demo or program that you have installed. It is also very useful to setup an Internet access on another computer other than the one you usually use for Internet access. This is almost a MUST if you want to try out some of the many FREE internet offers that are around at the moment. I will tell you More about this on another page. But as I said at the start of this page, once you have your LAN you will wonder however you managed without it! |
